  • The Paparoa Track

    The Paparoa Track is a 55.7 km (34.6 mi) shared hiking and mountain biking track located in Paparoa National Park in the South Island of New Zealand. The track was created as a memorial for the 29 miners who lost their lives in the Pike River Mine disaster. The track is the tenth Great Walk to be created and has been fully open since 1 March 2020.[1] It was the first addition to the Great Walks in 25 years.[2]

    The Paparoa Track crosses the Paparoa Range. It takes you through alpine tops, limestone karst landscapes and thriving rainforests, and provides breath-taking views.

  • Barrytown Knifemaking

    The Original – make your own knife activity, since 2005.

    Come and make a knife in our backyard – you’ll amaze yourself!

    You get to forge your own blade from red hot steel, and complete your knife with a native timber handle, brass bolsters and pins. Other free activities include axe throwing, target practice and a huge swing. Lunch is provided, usually toasted sandwiches.

  • Punakaiki

    The Pancake Rocks at Dolomite Point near Punakaiki are a heavily eroded limestone area where the sea bursts through several vertical blowholes. The pancake rocks in Punakaiki are the most visited natural attraction on the West Coast

    The foundations of the Pancake Rocks were formed 30 million years ago when minute fragments of dead marine creatures and plants landed on the seabed about 2 km below the surface.

  • Motukiekie Beach Walk

    Motukiekie Beach is one of the lesser-known beaches in NZ, located on the West Coast about less than half an hour away from Greymouth, 10 min drive south of Paparoa Beach Hideaway. This beach is wild, beautiful and there're many wonderful arches and cliffs along the way. Incredible geology. Make a good plan - this walk is accessible at low tide only. Access from the Great Coast Road at 14-mile settlement.
